Advances in FSW and FSSW of dissimilar Al-alloy plates

Numerous industrial applications, particularly those in the transport industry, require joining of dissimilar materials which offers considerable benefits terms low cost, design flexibility, and weight reduction for overall structures. The problems associated with conventional fusion welding processes have stimulated researchers recent years to develop new methods are difficult join. Friction stir (FSW) originally developed difficult-to-weld Al-alloys FSSW (a variant FSW spot welding) exhibited great potential obtaining sound joints various alloy systems different configurations namely butt-, lap- spot-welding, properties, very weld using techniques. A major difficulty by FSW/FSSW lies discontinuity mechanical technological properties (such as high-temperature strength, plastic deformation capacity, viscosity, etc.) be welded across abutting surfaces. This well inherent asymmetry heat generation material flow FWS/FSSW causes a higher behavior welding. However, it is relatively easier implement process contrast combinations differing such Al-alloy Mg-alloy or steel.
